STUDENTS AND TEACHER´S OPINIONS ABOUT THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER

My favourite character is aunt Polly because she is a lovely woman and a very good Mum. She remembers me my mother and grandmother.
                                                                                  Javier 2º ESO
Tom Sawyer is sometimes a kind person, but his heart is always good with his friends.
                                                                                  Pedro 2º ESO
I like Huck because although he´s afraid of ghost, he goes into the cave.
                                                                                  Jordan 2º ESO

Who´s Who in "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz"?

“THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ”
        By L. Frank Baum

It was his most famous book
At school.1stESO:
We read the easy adaptation in American English ,retold by Gina D. B. Clemen ,illustrated by Alida Massari  and published by Ediciones Vicens Vives, S.A., Black Cat Collection. Green Apple.Barcelona,2008.
We watched the film “The Wizard of Oz” directed by Victor Fleming in 1939, with Judy Garland as Dorothy.
After reading and watching , some of the students´ opinions were:

"I recommend it for people who love , for those who  are learning to love, to be intelligent and to have courage"

Who´s who in Real Life?

 Under the Characters

I recommend this book for kids and adults. It is funny and teaches to understand different people.
I prefer the film, because it has got more information and more colours , and…  Dorothy´s shoes are nicer in red!.
                                                                                  Ana L.

Dorothy ----She´s you and me. Our childhood.

Toto -----------He´s not only a pet, but our ”best friend       forever”.

The Scarecrow—He represents people who aren´t sure about their intelligence. They only need to be self-confident.

The Tin Woodman—He could be people without feelings, but …can a man without a heart love?...the answer is: yes!
He doesn´t see his heart but it is. He feels, he helps,..so, there´s a heart in his chest, The Tin Woodman is a true heart.

The Lion---He exemplifies our fear. We´re afraid of many things. We´re fear for our life, for our families´ lives…but the cowardly lion is really very courageous.
It´s  just a self-confidence problem again.

Aunt Em and Uncle Henry—They are the family. They are heaven and happiness, the shining light. Dorothy´s pain is being  far from them.

The Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda, The Good Witch of the South—
The Witches are goodness and wickedness, the two sides of the same coin, the two sides of each thing of each problem, of each life, and, in the end, goodness wins.

The wizard of Oz—
He says “I´m not a bad man but a bad wizard”. He tries to guide people to know themselves. The answer is inside us. We are more intelligent, more courageous and, in general, better than we think we are.

The main idea of the book is looking for the lost happiness.
The way, the yellow brick road, is sometimes difficult and sometimes easy but it is always interesting to walk. There will be many problems and helpful people, friends. The end of the road is the happiness of the beginning.
